    Free meta description generator

Five search snippets for any page, each written to fit the 155 characters Google shows and to earn the click rather than describe the page to itself.

Include the page title or main keyword if you have one. Everything else is detail the description can use.

    Make it count

What a meta description is actually for.

    01

It is ad copy, not a summary

Descriptions do not affect ranking. They affect whether anyone clicks the ranking you already have, which makes them an advert for the page rather than an abstract of it.

    02

Stay between 120 and 155 characters

Shorter wastes the space you were given. Longer gets truncated on desktop and much sooner on mobile, usually mid-promise.

    03

    Match the words people searched

Google rewrites descriptions when it thinks a passage from the page fits the query better. One that already uses the searcher’s language survives far more often.

A good snippet needs a page worth clicking.
